KANCHAN

Kanchan was a popular actress of Bollywood during 90's who has also acted in Telugu,Tamil and Malayalam movies .She was born on April 17, 1970 in Mumbai.


Kanchan and Chandni acted in   'Sanam Bewafa' opposite Salman Khan  in 1991.  It was a super hit success at the box office.

 

 








In 1993 she acted as Mohan Lal's heroine in  Malayalam Film Gandharvam' which was directed by Sangeeth Sivan.
This romantic film packed with fun and adventure was a super hit at the box office.This is the only Malayalam film which she acted in her career.
'Kranthi Kshetra' was a Campus based action thriller of 1994 in which Mithun Chakraborty and Pooja Bhatt acted in main roles.
'Prema Pusthakam' was a Telugu film of 1994 and debutant  Ajith Kumar and Kanchan acted in main roles.The director Gollapudi Srinivas died before competion of this film and  the rest part was directed by his father Gillapudi Maruthi Rao.The film won Nandi award for Best Screen Writer which was none other than Maruthi Rao.
She acted along with Jagpathi Babu,Rambha and Soundarya in 1994 for the Telugu film 'Allari Premikudu'.
'Amaanat' was a film directed by Raj N.Sippy in 1994 in which Sanjay Dutt,Akshay Kumar, Heera Raj Gopal and Kanchan   acted in pivotal roles.
'Pandav' was another film of Akshay Kumar directed by Raj N.Sippy in 1995.Kanchan acted as the character 'Nisha Tiwari' in this film which was not a success at the box office.
She acted in the film 'Coolie No.1 along with Govinda and Karishma Kapoor.

APARNA SEN

Aparna Sen is a highly acclaimed Bengali  Actress, Film Director and Screenwriter who is recipient of several National and International Awards.
She was born on 25 October 1945 in Calcutta to parents Chidanda Dasgupta and Supriya Dasgupta.She  studied at Presidency College and Passed B.A. English honors.
Satyajit Ray was her father's friend and so she acted in  his film 'Theen Kanya' at the age of 15 and she  again continued with her studies.
In 1965 she came back to films by acting in the movie 'Akash Kusum' which was directed by Mrinal Sen.Her portrayal of a widow character in another Mrinal Sen film 'Mahaprithbi' earned he Best Actress Award at Moscow Film Festival.
In 1969 she appeared in an English language film 'The Guru' for Merchant Ivory Productions and and also acted in two more films for them, which were 'Bombay Talkie' in 1970 and 'Hullabaloo over Georgie and Bonnie's Pictures' in 1978. 
Shashi Kapoor,Jennifer Kendal,Utpal Dutt,Nadira etc  acted along with Aparna Sen in Bomabay Talkie.'Hullabaloo Over Georgie and Bonnie's Pictures' was a TV movie and it was directed by James Ivory.
She acted in 'Aranyer Din Ratri' a critically acclaimed film of Satyajit Ray in 1970.Sharmila Tagore,Simi Garewal also acted in it.
She acted in a few Hindi films also.Aparna Sen and Kamini Kaushal were the two heroines of Hindi film 'Vishwas' which was released in 1969.Jeetendra was the hero.
'Sagina' was a Hindi film in which Dilip Kumar was the hero and directed by Tapan Sinha in 1974.Saira Banu also acted in it.
'Iman Dharam' was a Hindi film which was released in 1977.Amitabh Bachchan,Sanjeev Kumar and Shashi Kapoor acted in it which was directed by Desh Mukherjee.Rekha also acted in it along with Aparna Sen.
'Kotwal Saab' was a film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1977 in which Shatrughan Sinha was the hero hand Aparna Sen heroine.
Aparna Sen,Shabana Azmi,Shriram Lagoo were the main actors of another Hindi film 'Ek Din Achanak'  which was released in 1989.This was directed by Mrinal Sen.
She acted in 'Paromiter Ek Din (House of Memories) a film which was made in Hindi and Bengali in 2000. This film was directed by Aparna Sen.Soumitra Chatterjee,Aparna Sen and Rituparna Sengupta were the main actors.
Aparna Sen received accolades and Awards for many of  her films which she directed. 
'Iti Mrinalini' (An unfinished letter) was a film  which was made in English,Hindi and Bengali in 2011.This was directed by Aparna Sen.













'Paroma'(1984)  was another film which was made in Hindi and Bengali in which Rakhee Gulzar,Aparna Sen,Mukul Sharma and Anil Chatterjee acted.This film received Silver Lotus Award as Best Bengali Film.
Her debut as a director was in 1981 with the film '36 Chowranghee Lane' which won Best Director Award at the National Film Awards.This film won the Grand Prix(The Golden Eagle) at the Manila International Film Festival.
Her film 'Sati'(84) won National Award for Best Original screenplay and the film 'Yugant'(95) won National Award as Best Bengali Film.
Mr.&Mrs.Iyer  was a film which she directed in 2002.Her daughter 'Konkona Sharma' was the heroine.This film got National Awards for direction and acting Award for Konkona Sharma.
'15 Park Avenue' was directed by Aparna Sen  in 2005 which won National Award as Best English Film.Her daughter Konkona Sharma acted along with Shabana Azmi in it.
Her film 'Japanese Wife(2010) won Best feature film Award at Calgary International Film Festival in Canada and 'The Audience Award'  at the 'Kerala Film Festival'.
In 2013 her film 'Gajnar Baksho' received critical acclaim and ran in packed houses.
Sen has also worked as editor of 'Sananda' a Bengali Women's Magazine,Worked as creative Director for a TV Channel for a short period,She is now editor of a magazine 'Parama'.
She has served as Jury of several Film Festivals around the world.
She received many 'Life Time achievement Awards' from different organisations.
She is recipient of 'Padma Shri' Award from Government of India in 1986.

LILY CHAKRABORTY

Lily Chakraborty is mainly a Bengali actress who has earned accolades for her 
natural way of acting skill and has acted in many Bollywood films also.In large number of films she portrayed character roles but has acted as heroine in several pictures as well.She has acted as heroine of one Malayalam film 'Priya' in 1970.She has acted in Bhojpuri films,Assamese films etc also.
She used to act in stage plays and in TV serials.


Lily Chakraborty was born  on August 8, 1941 in Dhaka and her Father's name was Kesab Chandra Chakraborty and Mother was Dipti Chakraborty.Her debut film was as a supporting actress in the film " Bhanu Pelo Lottery' in 1958.She then used to  appear  continuously in Bengali films like 'Adwitiya,Fuleswari,Mukhjay Paribar,Janani' etc.
In 1973 Gulzar directed a sensitive subject 'Achanak' which told the story of an Army Officer who was very handsome, smart and home loving person eagerly returning home after the 1971 war to see his beloved wife.He was shocked to find that his wife was in love with another person.Vinod Khanna was the hero as the Army Officer  and Lily Chakraborty was the heroine of this film.Iftekhar acted as a Police Officer and Farida Jalal as a nurse.
In 1975 she acted in another film of 'Gulzar' named 'Mausam'  which was a super hit film.Sanjeev Kumar, Sharmila Tagore Om Shiv puri etc acted.
She acted along with Mallika Sarabhai in 'Mutti Bhar Chawal(75) directed by Surendra Shailaj.
In the Super hit film 'Chupke Chupke' in which Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore were the main pair Lily Chakraborty portrayed the character 'Lata Kumar Srivastav'.Hrishikesh Mukherjee was the director.
In another famous film of Hrishikesh Mukherjee in 1977 'Alaap' she acted as one of the heroine as 'Geeta. A. Prasad, wife of Amitabh Bachchan's character 'Alok Prasad'.
In 1989 she acted in 'Ek Din Achanak' which was directed by Mrinal Sen in which Shabana Azmi was the heroine.
In 1976 she acted in the Satyajit Ray's Bengali  film 'Jana Aranya' and later in another Satyajit Ray film 'Shakha Proshaka'.
In 1970 she was the heroine of Malayalam film 'Priya' which was directed by Madhu.It was the debut venture of Madhu as a director.Madhu acted as the hero of this movie which was adopted from the novel of C.Radhakrishnan.
In 2009 she has acted in the Assamese film 'Basundhara' which got National Award for Best feature film in Assamese.It handled the theme of man-elephant conflicts faced by forest range inhabitants.Director'Producer was Hiren Bora.

SONIA SAHNI

Actress Sonia Sahni's father was from Lahore and mother was from Peshawar and the family had settled in Kashmir before partition.Her father who was a mining engineer by profession died when Sonia was only six months old.She was the youngest of the seven sisters and two brothers and they were brought up by their mother who was a teacher.
Sonia used to act in plays at school  while she was a student , and  on one occasion while she was a tenth class student her acting in a play was watched by a film unit members that happened to reach there.Producer/director Roop Shourie and I.S.Johar were among them and I.S.Johar wanted to cast her for his next  project 'Johar Mehmood in Goa'.She was called for that film only after two years and during that period she studied for two years at College.
The film ' Johar Mehmood at Goa' was a silver Jubilee hit.
Sonia signed a five year contrat with I.S.Johar and during that period she could act only in films of I.S.Johar.The films of I.S.Johar were liked by the common working class people since they were comedy films and were meant for pure entertainment purpose.She worked with Mehmood,Kishore Kumar,Sanjeev Kumar,Dev Kumar,Sujit Kumar etc during that period.

'Maya' was a jungle theme film of I.S.Johar in 1966 which was directed by 'John Berry'.
She was heroine of I.S.Johar films like 'Johar in Kashmir,Johar in Bombay,Mera Naam Johar' etc during the next few years.
She acted opposite Dev Anand in 'Akalmand' (66) in which Kishore Kumar,I.S.Johar also acted.
After her contract period with I.S.Johar, she acted as heroine of several B grade films such as 'Bandish,Sasta Khoon Mengha Pyar,Raate Ke Andhere Mein,Kaun Ho Tum' etc.
Later she acted as second lead in  many movies of  popular heroines such as Hema Malini,Waheeda Rehman,Parveen Babi,Zeenat Aman,Rekha' etc.

She could also act opposite heroes like 'Dharmendra,Raj Kapoor,Raj Kumar,Dev Anand,Sanjeev Kumar' etc.
In the 1970 film 'Sharafat' Dharmendra and Hema Malini were the lead pair and it was directed by Asit Sen.She acted as the character 'Rekha' in that film.

In the film 'Darpan'(70) in which Sunil Dutt and Waheeda Rehman were the lead pair she acted as the character Bijli.
She was heroine of 'Johar Mehmood in Hong Kong(1971) directed by S.A.Akbar.
She was heroine of 1971 film 'Hulchul' which was a suspense thriller hit film.
It shows what does a good citizen do when he hears or sees some potential criminal activity.

Sonia portrayed the character 'Lily' in the super hit film 'Andaz(71) in which Shammi Kapoor,Hema Malini,Rajesh Khanna,Simi Garewal' etc acted.The film was directed by Ramesh Sippy.

In the 1973 film 'Bobby' produced and directed by Raj Kapoor, she acted as Mrs.Sushma Nath, wife of Pran's  character Nath and mother of hero 'Raj' who was Rishi Kapoor.

In the 1997 film 'Aflatoon' in which Akshay Kumar was the hero, Sonia Sahni portrayed the role of a College Professor.

YOGEETA BALI

Yogeeta Bali was a prominent actress of Bollywood during the mid 60's to 1985 and she has  acted as heroine of a few films and second lead in large number of films.
She was born on 29 December 1952 to parents Jaswant and Haridarshan Kaur in Mumbai.She had her education done from Calcutta University and entered in to films from mid 60's.She is niece of Geeta Bali.
She acted as second lead of  films of top heroines like Hema Malini,Rakhee,Rekha,Moushimi Chatterjee,Sharmila Tagore,Jaya Bachchan,Zeenat Aman,Reena Roy,Poonam Dhillon etc in many films.
She acted opposite top heroes like Amitabh Bachchan,Vinod Khanna,Sanjeev Kumar,Mithun Chakraborty,Kishore Kumar,Kiran Kumar,Anil Dhawan,Randhir Kapoor etc
She married Kishore Kumar and the relationship lasted for two years only from 1976 to 78.
In 1978 a film 'Shabhash Daddy' was released in which Kishore Kumar was the hero and Yogeeta as the heroine.It was directed by Kishore Kumar himself.
In the 1971 film 'Parwana' she acted opposite Amitabh Bachchan.Navin Nischol,Shatrughan Sinha,Om Prakash etc acted along with them.It was directed by Jyoti Swaroop.
In 1971 she acted opposite Vinod Khanna in the suspense movie 'Mem Saab'.
In the 1974 film 'Free Love' Kiran Kumar acted opposite to her.
In the 1980film 'Khwab' Yogeeta Bali and Ranjeeta were the two heroines and Mithun Chakraborty was the hero.Yogeeta acted as the character 'Maya Mathur' in this film which was directed by Shakti Samanta.It was on the set of this film that Shakti Samanta noticed that Mithun Chakraborty and Yogeeta were in love.In the film Khwab Ranjeeta acted as Indrani R.Prasad another equal character like Maya Mathur.Ashok Kumar,Utpal Dutt,Tarun Ghosh etc  also acted in it.
In the 1980 film 'Oh Bewafa' Anil Dhawan and Yogeeta were the main leads.It was directed by Sawan Kumar Tak.Rajendra Kumar,Farida,Nazneen,Paintal etc acted in it.
Yauwan was another film in which  Yogeeta Bali and Anil Dhawan  acted as the main pair.It was a lovable romantic film.
In the film 'Grahasthi' she was noticed as 'Sudha',  one of the the daughters  of Ashok Kumar.The film was directed by Prashant Nanda.
She acted opposite Mithun Chakraborty in the 1983 film 'Karate' which was directed by Deb Mukherjee.Kajal Kiran and Prema Narayan also acted in it.
Yogeeta Bali received accolades for her performance in many films like ' Mem Saab,Ajanabee,Nauker,Dhoop Chhaon,Biwi O Biwi,Laila,Jaanwar' and many more.
She retired from films after marriage with Mithun Chakraborty.They have four children.
