HELEN

Helen is the most popular on screen  cabaret dancer and perhaps the first item dancer of Indian cinema. She danced cheerfully and gracefully in to the minds of Indian audience with a bang in the 50's and continued that magic throughout 60's and 70's.
Helen was born in Burma as Helen Richardson on November 21, 1939 to an Anglo Indian Army Officer. Her father died in the second world war and her family came to Bombay.
She was introduced to films by the famous dancer Cuckoo Moray in 1953  and she got chance to dance as a chorus dancer in the film Shabistan and Awara.Very soon she became a solo dancer because of her expert  dancing skill.
Her popularity attained much heights by the dance number 'Mera Naam Chin Chin Choo' in the film 'Howrah Bridge'(1958) and the scene as well as the song sung by Geeta Dutt was liked by the audience; and obviously still loved.
Helen has danced in more than 700 films and was happy to be a dancer.A smile always clings on her face while dancing and she could always cheer-up the audience with her graceful movements.
She could act in supporting roles of many films  and in lead roles of a few movies also.Several times she was nominated for Filmfare Best Supporting actress Award. She got Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role as Chinese wife of Vinod Khanna  in the film 'Lahu Ke Do Rang' in 1979.
