SIMI GAREWAL

Simi Garewal, is  active as an actress  from  the  late 60's and she  possess diversified talents  as a writer,T.V.Host,TV documentaries director etc.
She was born on 17 Oct. 1947 at Delhi.Her father was a Brigadier in the Army and she grew up in England.She studied at a school in London with her sister Amrita.
After returning to India as a teenager,  she started to act in films.At the age of 15, she could act in an English film 'Tarzan Goes to India'.
She received Filmfare Supporting actress Award for her performance in the film 'Do Baadan' of 1966.Manoj Kumar and Asha Parekh acted as the main pair of this film which was directed by Raj Khosle.Her role as Dr.Anjali received much appreciation from critics.
In the year 1968 also she was selected by Filmfare as Best supporting actress for her role as 'Rajni' in the film 'Saathi'.
In the film 'Mera Naam Joker' which was directed by Raj Kapoor she made a nice appearance as teacher Mary.
Satyajit Ray noted her acting talents and gave her a role in his film 'Aranyer Din Ratri(Days and Nights in the Forest).




Mrinal Sen made her heroine in his Bengali film 'Padatik'.
She starred with Shashi Kapoor in an English language film of Columbia pictures 'Siddhartha' in lead female role.
She appeared in popular films 'Kabhie Kabhie' and Chalte Chalte' in 1976.
Her performance in the film 'Karz'(80) was also well noted.
In 1983 she produced,directed and hosted a TV series for Doordarshan in the name 'It is a Woman's World'.
She made documentaries about Rajiv Gandhi and Raj Kapoor.
Later she received many awards for her TV presentations like 'Screen Award for Best Talk Show and Best Anchor in 1999, and 'Indian Television Academy Award for Best Anchor in 2003'.

NANDA

Nanda was a popular leading lady in several films and acted also as supporting actress and character artiste in many films and at present living a retired life from films at Mumbai.
She was born on 8 Jan,1939 to Vinayak Damodar Karnataki who was a successful actor/director.When Nanda was only eight years old her father  passed away and she took the burden  to assist the family financially by acting as a child artist in movies as 'Baby Nanda'.During her childhood days it was not possible for her  to attend school because of film shooting schedules and  she was tutored at home by an efficient school teacher.
She is the  great-niece of famous film maker/director  V.Shantaram and he gave her a major role in 'Toofan Aur Diya' which received good opinion.
South Indian actress Pandari Bai and Nanda acted in pivot roles of 'Bhabhi' directed by R.Krishan in 1957 in which Balraj Sahni was the hero.This film became the highest grosser of that year.
In the film 'Chhoti Bahen' of 1959 she played the title role and Balraj Sahni was the hero.
Sunil Dutt acted opposite her in 'Nartaki', 1960 film 'Usne Kaha Tha' 1963 film 'Aaj aur Kal' which were successful films.
She acted opposite Dev Anand in 'Hum Dono'(61) as one of the two heroines and she was one of the 'Devi' of 'Teen Deviyan'.In Hum Dono Dev Anand was in  double roles  and she played as a beautiful wife's role.
In 'Teen Deviyan' she portrayed a calm beautiful girl who was competing with other two girls.
B.R.Chopra's 'Kanoon' in which there was no songs and 'Anchal'(60) which earned her Filmfare Best Supporting actress award were critically acclaimed.
In 8 films Shashi Kapoor was her hero and the pair were liked by the audience.
Five movies  were box office hits and the  other three received critical acclaim but financially flopped.
Films 'Mohabbat Isko Kahte Hein,Jab Jab Phool Khile,Neend Hamari Khwab Tumhare,Raja Saab,Rootha Na Karo' were the successful films of Nanda and Shashi Kapoor pair.
'Gumnam' directed by Raja Nawathe in 1965 was a box office hit in which




Nanda acted opposite Manoj Kumar.
Rajesh Khanna was her hero in the successful film 'Joru ka  Ghulam' with a comedy theme directed by A.Bhimsingh in 1972.
She took a long leave  from 1974  and returned in 1981 with a mother role of Padmini Kolhapure's heroine character in film 'Ahista Ahista' which was a box office hit and in 82 and 83 also she acted as mother of Padmini Kolhapure in successful films 'Mazdoor'  and  'Prem Rog'.

SADHANA SHIVDASANI

Sadhana Shivdasani  was one of the top stars during 60's and 70's and she had been a fashion icon for the youths of that period.She introduced tight Churidar tops and  a special hair style known to be 'Sadhana cut' which impressed many youngsters. This exquisite, charming girl was model for several cosmetic brands like 'Lux'.
Sadhana was born in a 'Sindhi' family  at Karachi on Sept. 2, 1941.She is the daughter of actor  Hari Shivdasani's brother.When India was partitioned, the family fled from Karachi to Mumbai and settled there.
She had the ambition to be an actress from her childhood which was made true  by her father.At the age of 15 she could act in a small role in Raj Kapoor's 'Shree 420' and in 1958 acted in India's first Sindhi film 'Abana'.
In 1960 she acted as heroine in R.K.Nayyar directed 'Love in Simla' in which Joy Mukherjee debuted as hero.
Then she appeared in an award winning film 'Parakh'.In 1961 she paired with Dev Anand in a hit film 'Hum Dono'.
The musical film 'Ek Musafir Ek Hasina'  which was directed by Raj Khosla in 1962 in which Joy Mukherjee was the hero became a box office hit.
1963 witnessed her first techni colour film 'Mere Mehboob.
'Woh Kaun Thi' was a suspense thriller directed by Raj Khosla in which Manoj Kumar was the hero and it was a success.Raj Khosla made two more suspense  thrillers with Sadhana which earned her the title 'Mystery girl' and those films 'Mera Saaya' and 'Anita' were super hit box office hits.
In Mera Saaya of 1966 Sunil Dutt was the hero and Sadhana acted in double role.Manoj Kumar and Sadhana acted in 1967 film 'Anita'.
Mera Saaya  had enchanting songs which are still popular among music lovers.
'Arzoo' directed by Ramanand Sagar in 1965 was a success at the box Office in which Rajendra Kumar and Feroz Khan acted along with her in lead roles.
'Intaquam' was directed by R.K.Nayyar which  was also a suspense thriller in which Sanjay Khan acted opposite to her.
Sadhana directed 1974 film 'Geeta Mera Naam' in which she herself was the heroine and Sunil Dutt was the hero.It was produced by R.K.Nayyar.
Sadhana married producer/director R.K.Nayyar in 1966.They were in love from the sets of 'Love in Simla' itself.The marriage lasted for thirty years till his death.
She is staying at Santracruz,Mumbai at present.

REHANA SULTAN

Rehana Sultan is an Indian actress who was very popular in the 70's and possess immaculate acting talents which was further polished from the Film and TV Institute of India,Pune  where she joined  for studies in 1967.
Rehana Sultan was born at Allahabad on 19 Nov. 1950.After acting in her diploma film 'Shadi ki Pehli Salgirah' she got the lead role of 1970 film 'Dastak' which  was the directorial debut of Rajender Singh Bedi who was also the producer of the film.
Rehana Sultan was the first actress from the Pune Film Institute to become the lead actress of a commercial film, and she got National Film Award as the Best Actress for it.That film bagged two other National awards; one for actor Sanjeev Kumar as Best actor and the other for music director Madan Mohan.
               During the shooting of that film,  writer/director B. R.Ishara  cast her in lead role of his film 'Chetana' and completed it in 28 days.The film focused on the rehabilitation of sex workers and she was admired for the bold portrayal of the character in the film.She was but unfortunately typecast after this film which reduced her chances to get varied subjects and roles.
'Man Tera Tan Mera' was another film directed by B.R.Ishara in 1971,Man Jaiye in 72, and a comedy film 'Dil Ki Rahen' was directed by him in 1973  in which she was in female lead roles.
Rehana Sultan acted in lead role and directed the 1972 film ' Tanhai'.
Rehana Sultan and Vinod Mehra acted as the leading pair of the  1974 film 'Albeli' 
in which Ashok Kumar acted in main role along with Devan Verma, who was also the director of the film.
She acted along with Shabana Azmi and Raj Babbar in the 1977 political satire 'Kissa Kursi Ka'.
Agent Vindod was a 1977 spy thriller in which Mahendra Sandhu  acted as Agent Vinod, and Rehana acted in it along with Asha Sachdev.
She acted with Danny and Waheeda Rehman for the 1979 film 'Aaj ki Dhara'.
She got married to director B.R.Ishara in 1984 and had almost quit films.She appeared in some T.V.Serials etc but after the death of her husband she is set for a come back in character roles and mother roles.

MALA SINHA

Mala Sinha drew the attention and love of Indian film spectators during the period 1950 to 1994  by her immaculate acting talents   and exceptional beauty.She was selective in her roles and  always took care to choose roles which were equally bright  or more powerful than that of the hero character.She was capable of presenting any type of characters which demanded precise acting skill and at the same time she was equally good at glamorous roles too.Mala Sinha has acted in Hindi,Bengali and Nepali films.
Mala Sinha was born in an Indian Nepali family in Nepal on 11 Nov. 1936 as 'Alda'.She started her acting career in Bengali films.While  during the shooting of a Bengali film  in Mumbai, she met Geeta Bali and she introduced her to director Kidar Sharma.He cast her as heroine in his film 'Rangeen Ratein' but her first released Hindi film was 'Badshah'.Pradeep Kumar was the hero of  that film.
In the 50's she acted in films like Ekadashi,Fashion,Detective,Duniya Na Mane,Phir Subah Hogi,Dhool ka Phool etc.
Guru Dutt cast her in his film 'Pyasa' which is a classic film which earned appreciation from critics and audience  and her exceptional appearance got much accolades.
'Phir Subah Hogi' produced and directed by Ramesh Saigal in 1958 was a super hit film in which Raj Kapoor and Mala Sinha were  the main pair.
In the film 'Ujala'  directed by Naresh Saigal, Shammi Kapoor and Raj Kumar acted along with her.
Rjendra Kumar was the hero of 'Dhool Ka Phool', a super hit film of Yash Chopra in 59.
'Bewaqoof' was 1960 film directed by I.S.Johar in which Kishore Kumar acted opposite to her.
During the 60's she could act in many classic films and historic films in which she presented fabulous acting skill.
Anpath(62),Dil Tera Diwana(52),Gumrah(63),Himalaya Ki Gode  Mein,Jahanara,Aasru(65),Aankhen(68) etc were all super hit successful films.
The historic film 'Jahan Ara' of 1964  received much applause for her relatively best  presentation in which Bharat Bhushan acted opposite to her.
'Anpath' was 1962 film directed by Mohan Kumar which emphasized the need of education for girls.Dharmendra was the hero of this film.
In the 1968 film 'Ankhen' directed by Ramanand Sagar, Dharmendra and Mala Sinha were the main artists and that film was the biggest hit of that year in India.
With Amitabh Bachchan she acted in films like 'Sanjog(1971).Sanjay Khan was her hero in the 1966 film 'Dillagi'.She could act with actors like Jeetendra,Sunil Dutt,Manoj Kumar etc also.
'Apne Huye Paraye' was a successful classic film in which Manoj Kumar was the hero.
She was superb in the film 'Bahurani' directed by Tatineni Prakash Rao in which Guru Dutt and Feroz Khan acted.She presented brilliant acting talents in films like 'Gumrah,Gehra Daag,Apne Huye Paraye,Jahan Ara' and many more.
Her films 'Phool Bane Angaare,Maryada,Karmayogi'  opposite Raj Kumar were box Office hits.With Manoj Kumar Himalaya Ki God Mein,Hariyali aur Rasta were also super hits like Apne Huye Paraye.
With Rajendra Kumar also she created hits like Devar Bhabhi,Dhool Ka Phool,Patang ,Geet etc.
With Biswajeet she has hits like 'Aasru,Night in London,Do Kaliyaan,Tamanna,Nai Roshini,Pyar Ka Sapna,Phir Kabhi Milogi,Paisa Ya Pyar, etc.
She was heroine in many woman oriented films of that period.
In 1966 Mala Sinha married Nepali film star and estate owner C.P.Lohani and did not quit films after the marriage.
