When the Bollywood film 'Ek Duje Ke Liye' was released  all over India in 1981, it became an instant hit.The different story concept,Skilful direction of K.Balachander, the beautiful songs and music by Laxmikant Pyarelal,miraculous acting talents of Kamal Hassan and Rati Agnihotri along with other best suited artists,mesmerizing voice of Playback singer S.P.Balasubramanyam etc were aspects for stupendous success of this film.In the south Kamal Hassan and S.P.Balasubramanyam were very popular. Even though Rati Agnihotri  hailed from  Punjab , she had already gained much  popularity as a South Indian Film star by then.
Rati Agnihotri was a resident of Chennai for several years  because her father was employed there and the whole family was staying there during that period.She was born in a Punjabi Sikh Family on 10 Dec 1960.She was allowed to take up modelling at the age of 10.She was interested in arts and cultural activities from childhood itself.She studied at a Chennai School and film director Bharati Raja spotted her during a school function in which she was an active participant.He was searching a new face for his new film and thus she became heroine in his film 'Puthiya Varpukal' opposite Bhagya Raj in 1979.It was the debut film of Bhagyaraj also.That film was a hit and Bharati Raja again cast her in his next venture 'Niram Maratha Pookkal' which was also a blockbuster film.Thus Rati Agnihotri became a household name in Tamil Nadu.In a short span of three years she could appear in several nice films opposite stars like Kamal Hassan and Rajani Kant.She was also able to act in big projects of Telugu and Kannada during those period.
Rati Agnihotri could not return to Chennai to act in any South Indian Languages for a decade after the stunning victory of 'Ek Duje Keliye' since the Bollywood Cinema consumed her whole time afterwards.She could act opposite all eminent actors like Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan during that period in hits like 'Coolie',  'Hukumat'  'Farz aur Kanoon' and many  many more.
In 1985 she was married to architect and businessman Anil Virwani and had to withdraw herself  from the film field for a long period.Meanwhile she became  a mother 
and when that boy became 16 years of age she returned back to silver screen by
 acting in the film 'Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi' in 2001.She portrayed  a glamorous mother role in that film and followed by that she was cast in several other films in mother roles and supporting roles.After 20 years gap she could act in a Tamil film 'Majunu' in 2001.She appeared in a Malayalam film 'Anyar' in 2003 for the first time in her film career and in an English film 'An Ode to Lost Love' in the same year.She could act in a Bengali film in 2008.
She used to act occasionally in stage plays and T.V.Serials.Her husband owns a shopping Mall at Pune and she designs some craft works and materials there.She is involved in social causes like AIDS and Cancer.She has already acted in Hindi,Tamil,Telugu,Kannada,Malayalam,Bengali,Bhojpuri,Punjabi,English and still active on the silver screen.
Her sister Anita Agnihotri(Miss India) lives in Poland and owns a Restaurant there.Rati Agnihotri's son has also entered film field as an actor.
