SUHASINI

Suhasini is a versatile actress who acts in all the south Indian languages of Tamil,Telugu,Kannada and Malayalam for more than last three decades.She possess fantabulous acting skills and was able to manifest several unforgettable roles quite naturally.
Sorrowful emotive roles,serious roles,humour roles and other type of roles which may require much acting abilities are all feasible to this actress with intrinsic talents.
She is the daughter of Charu Hassan who is the elder brother of the 'Gem of Indian Cinema-Kamal Hassan'.Charu Hassan is National Award winner as Best Actor for a Kannada Movie,
Kamal Hassan is recipient of National Awards  as Best Actor thrice,Suhasini  also got National Award as best Actress for her film 'Sindhu Bhairavi'.
Suhasini's husband is Award winning Director and producer of films, Mani Ratnam.
Suhasini was born on 15 Aug 1961 and she made her debut in the Tamil film 'Nenjathe Killathe' for which she received Tamil Nadu Government Best Actress Award.
Suhasini entered Malayalam Cinema with the film Padmarajan's  'Koodevide' in 1983 in which Mammootty was the hero.Rahman debuted in to film field with that film and he got 
second Best Actor Award for 'Koodevide'.
Koodevide was a grand success and the pair Mammootty-Suhasini appeared in several films
there upon  and proved as a success pair.
Mohan Lal has also acted successfully with Suhasini in many films and his film 'Vanaprastham' earned wide praise from critics and audience.
'Ente Upasana' was a classic film directed by Bharathan in which Mammootty was the hero.
In the year 1985, the  film 'Sindu Bhairavi' which was written,produced and directed by K.Balachander earned  Suhasini National Award as Best Actress.
In Telugu Suhasini paired with Chiranjeevi in many films and most of their films were success at the box Office.
In Kannada Suhasini and Vishnu Vardhan proved as a lucky pair and their films always 
collected well at the box office.
'Manivathoorile Ayiram Sivarathrikal' was an excellent film directed by Fazil in  87 in which Mammootty and Suhasini acted together in main roles along with M.G.Soman.
'Rakkuyilin Ragasadassil' was a blockbuster film of Mammootty and Suhasini in which the
song and sequence of "Poomukha vathilkal sneham vidarthunna poonthinkalakunnu Bharya"
earned wide popularity and appreciation.That song is still very popular and an evergreen song.
'Aradhana' was a Telugu film directed by Bharathi Raja in which Chiranjeevi was the hero.
It was the  remake of   Tamil movie 'Kadalora Kavidaigal'.Radhika and Rajasekhar were
also in that film in important roles.
In the film 'Dharmathin Thalaivan' directed by S.P.Muthuraman, Rajani Kanth,Prabhu Ganesan,Captain Raju,Suhasini and Khushboo were in important roles.It was the debut
film of Khushboo in Tamil.
'En Bommakkutty Ammavukku' directed by Fazil in 88 was also a super hit film which was the remake of Malayalam film 'Ente Mamattikutty Ammakku'.Sathyaraj,Raghuvaran,Geethu MohandasmSuhasini were in lead roles.
'Chantabbi' was Telugu film of 86 in which Chiranjivi and Suhasini acted in lead roles which was directed by Jandhyala.It was a classic comedy which received much critical acclaim
'Rakshasudu' was 86 film of Chiranjivi and Suhasini in which Nagendra Babu and Radha
acted along with them.

'Pedababu was 2004 Telugu film of Jagapathi babu and Kalyani in which Suhasini acted.
'Eradane Madave' is 2010 Kannada film which is a comedy film directed by Dinesh Baboo
in which Anant Nag and Suhasini appear in lead roles.
In 2011 again another super hit Kannada  comedy film of director Dinesh Baboo ' 'Mathond Madhuvana' in which Anat Nag and Suhasini appeared together as leading pair was a 
big success.
Suhasini stepped into direction in 1996  with 'Indira' a film which was produced by G.V.Films and 
She wrote screenplay for it.She directed a Television show 'Penn' in 1991.
She is a trained  Cinematographer.She is the first girl student for that course at Madras
Film Institute.
Suhasini wrote dialogues for films 'Thiruda Thiruda'  "Iruvar" and "Ravan'.
Suhasini is a costume designer and a hobby hair stylist.
Suhasini with her husband Mani Ratnam and with G.Sreenivasan is having a movie production  Company  in the name "Madras Talkies".

SHARADA

Sharada earned reputation for her skill to portray characters  with grief and pain and so  that
several movies were purposely made in Malayalam to exploit that extraordinary talent of her.Stories were suitably designed  for her in earlier times  as  the lead female character  to shed a lot of
tears and she  would be without anybody's help struggling  in a miserable and pathetic condition- not knowing  what to do.The audiences also felt sympathy for such characters of  her when she portrayed several of them  emotively as if real.Sharada is possessing exceptional talent and
skill to act quite naturally and she is well versed to play any kind of roles but this versatile actress  would be
marvelous to display sorrowful grievances of poor women in the society.
Sharada received National Award as Best Actress thrice, two times for Malayalam films and the other for a Telugu film.
Sharada earned name and fame by acting in Malayalam films.She was concentrating only in
Malayalam films for a long period in her career.
Sharada was born as 'Saraswathi Devi and her parents were Venkiteswara Rao and Sathyavathi Amma.She was born on 12 June 1945 at Tenali,Guntur,Andhra Pradsh.Sharada
lived with her Grandmother Kanakamma in the childhood at Madras  and learned dancing with an intention to join films.
She debuted in a Telugu film at the age of 13.From 1959 on wards she began to act in the name 'Sharada'.She got chance to act in Nageswara Rao film 'Iddaru Muthrulu' and in Tamil films and Malayalam films substantially.
In 1965 she  was the heroine of some famous films of Malayalam such as 'Murapennu,Inapravukal,Kattu Thulasi' etc which were all successful films.Murapennu was
a grand success at the box Office in which Prem Nazir,Ummer etc acted and it was based on 
the screenplay of M.T.Vasudevan Nair, who is 'Njan Peeth ' holder.It was M.T's debut venture as a screen play writer.She acted in another blockbuster film 'Sakunthala' with
Prem Nazir and K.R.Vijaya.The songs  of Sakunthala and Murapennu are still popular.
Her performance in the film 'Iruttinte Athmavu' earned critical acclaim in 1966 which was
a nice  spectacular portray of character and she got National Honourary Award for that film and
other various films of that year.Prem Nazir was also well appreciated for his excellent acting
performance in the film 'Iruttinte Athmavu' in 1966.
Sharada received National Award as Best Actress for the Malayalam film 'Thulabharam' in
1969 which was directed by A.Vincent.That film won National award as second best feature film of that year.Sheela, Thickurissi,Prem Nazir,Madhu  etc acted  in Thulabharam with Sharada.
'Pareeksha' was another blockbuster film which was written by T.N.Gopinathan Nair.It contained beautiful songs and the hero was Prem Nazir.
'Adimakal' of 69 was another successful film in which Sheela and Sathyan also acted with
Sharada and got National  award as best feature film of Malayalam.
'Mooladhanam' was a film in which Sharada portrayed the character as the wife of Sathyan,
a political leader who was arrested by the police.Sharada and her children had to suffer a
lot and she had so many sequences to act emotively which she presented brilliantly.
'Nadhi' was another film of grand success at the box office in which P.J.Antony,Thickurissi,
Nellikkodu Bhaskaran,Prem Nazir,Ambika, Baby Sumathi etc acted  which was of an unusual
story and contained melodious songs.
'Thriveni' of 1970 was also a nice film of Sathyan,Prem Nazir,Sharada etc .That film was also
a challenge to her acting skill.Sathyan was superb in this film as a rich old man who married
Sharada's character to protect her dignity in the society but loved her like a father  and he loved  the child born to
her also very much.
Sharada received the Second National Award as Best Actress for the Malayalam film 'Swayamvaram' in 1972 which was directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan.It was the debut
directional venture of the genius director and the film was a  neo- realistic film in Malayalam.She
could act in another such film of Adoor Gopalakrishnan 'Elipathayam' in 1987 also.
Swayamvaram bagged other National award as best feature film of the year,Best Director





Award and Best Cinematographer award for ' Mankada Ravi Varma.'
Madhu and Sharada was in the leading roles of 'Swayamvaram' which was a new experience
for the spectators.
From around 1972 on wards she started acting in Telugu films along with Malayalam films and occasionally acted in some Hindi films and Tamil films.
The film 'Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam' was a blockbuster film and super duper hit
at the box office which was directed by Bharathan.Nedumudi Venu and sharada portrayed
retired teachers and as childless couple in this film.Parvathy and Devan with M.S.Thrippunithura displayed fantastic acting skills.
Sharada acted brilliantly and majestically as a Judge 'Usha Varma' in 'Kashmiram',  a Suresh Gopi film.
In 2011 her role in the film 'Nayika' is also unforgettable.Jayaram and Padma Priya acted
nicely in this picture.
Sharada married Telugu actor/producer Jhalam but divorced later.She is also a film producer and produced some Malayalam films also.She was selected as a Parliament Member from her hometown.
Sharada received National Honourary Award for Iruttinte Athmavu as Best Actress in 1966
She received National Best actress Award in 1969 for Malayalam film Thulabharam
She received National Best Actress Award in 1972 for Malayalam film 'Swayamvaram'
She received National Best Actress Award in 1977 for Telugu film 'Nimajjanam'.
In 1970 she received Kerala Government Best actress award for film Thiruvonam
In 1977 she received Lifetime Achievement Award from Filmfare.
In 2010 she received NTR National Award.

SHARMILA TAGORE

Sharmila Tagore was very cute and charming at the height of her fame as the heroine of Bollywood,   and Bengali films in her youth.She is still active in films by appearing in supporting roles,elderly roles etc.
She was born in 1946 in a Bengali Hindu family at  Hyderabad  to Gitindranath Tagore who was General Manager of Elgin Mills.She is the great grand niece of Nobel Prize winner-Indian
Poet- Rabindranath Tagore.
She entered film industry through Bengali film of Sathyajit Ray's  'Apur Sansar' and acted in as the ill fated 
wife of   title character 'Apu'.She had acted in some other Bengali films also before debuting  in Hindi film in 1964 like the film 'Devi' in which she acted opposite Soumitra Chatterjee.Shakti Samanta introduced her in 'Kashmir ki Kali' opposite Shammi Kapoor which was a success.
In 1966 Sharmila and Dharmendra appeared together in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 'Anupama'
Shakti Samanta utilized the winning pair Shammi and Sharmila in the film 'An Evening in Paris' which the production and direction was vested on him.In that film Sharmila made history by appearing in a 'bikini'.The film was a grand success.Pran acted as villain in this film.
'Satyakam' was a critically acclaimed film of 1969 in which Dharmendra,Sharmila Tagore,Ashok Kumar and Sanjeev Kumar acted.The film which was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee received good opinion.
1969 film 'Aradhana' was a blockbuster film of  the pair Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore.
It was produced and directed by Shakti Samanta and Sharmila received the first Filmfare 
award as the Best Actress for this film.It was dubbed in to Bengali and was a success there also.It was remade in Tamil as 'Sivakamiyin Selvan'(74) and in to Telugu as 'Kannavari Kalavu'(74).The songs composed by S.D.Burman mesmerized the audiences.
1970 film 'Safar' of  Rajesh Khanna-Sharmila Tagore was another super hit film.Ashok Kumar and Feroz Khan were also in that film in prime roles.
Chhoti Bahu directed by K.B.Tilak was based on a  Bengali Novel written by 'Saratchandra Chatterjee' in which again Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila were the pair.
The winning pair Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila acted in 'Daag' which was  directed and
Produced by Yash Chopra in 1973 turned to be a big success at the box office.It was the first







film production of Yash Chopra.Rakhee who acted in this picture won her first Filmfare award.The film was remade in Telugu as 'Vichitra Jeevitham'(78).
'Mausam' directed by 'Gulzar' and produced by P.Mallikarjuna Rao was a fantastic film for
which Sharmila Tagore received National Award  as  Best Actress.The film bagged National
award for second Best feature film.Sanjeev Kumar was the hero in this film.Filmfare Best
Movie award and Filmfare Best Director award was for film 'Mausam'.
'Amanush' of 1975 was made in both Hindi and Bengali in which Uttam Kumar and Sharmila 
acted as pair.It was produced and directed by Shakti Samanta.Bengali version gained much
popularity and was a smash hit.
Film 'Namkeen' directed by Gulzar in 1982 was an emotional film which showed the rural
life  of a  poor mother and her three young girls in which Sharmila and Sanjeev kumar were
in the lead.Shabana Aazmi,Waheeda Rehman were also in key roles.The story was by 
'Samrah Basu' who won Filmfare award for Best story.
In the 2005 film 'Virudh' Amitabh Bachchan and Sharmila acted as pair.Sanjay Dutt and
John Abraham acted  important roles in this film.
Sharmila Tagore is still appearing in supporting roles and elderly roles.
Sharmila Tagore   Married Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the Nawab of Pataudi and former Captain of the Indian Cricket Team in 1969.They have three Children.Son Saif Ali Khan is a famous Bollywood Actor.Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Passed away in the year 2011.
She was Chairperson of Indian Film Censor Board from 2004 to 2011.
In 2005 she was chosen as an UNICEF  Goodwill Ambassador.
In 1969 she received Filmfare Best Actress Award for 'Aradhana'
In 1976 she received National Award for Best Actress -Film 'Mausam'
In 1997 she received Filmfare Lifetime Achievement  Award.
In 2002 she received Star Screen Lifetime Achievement Award
In 2004 she received National Award for Best Supporting Actress -Film "Abar Aranye'

MUMTAZ

Mumtaz is a Bollywood film actress who was a charming beauty in her twenties  and one of the top heroin
during the period 1967-74 appeared in lead roles of several  blockbuster movies opposite all the main male artists.

Mumtaz, who is affectionately called as Mumu hails from Mumbai  and born to parents Abdul Saleem Askari and Shadi Habib Agha on 31 July 1947.
She entered  Hindi cinema as a Junior artiste at an early age of 12 with her sister Malika.
Mumtaz appeared in small roles during those period and later she was cast as heroine in low
budget films known as 'B' grade movies.For the existence in the tinsel world she accepted those
roles  and acted in films such as "Boxer,Samson,Tarzan,Kingkong" etc which were not having
any artistic value but just made for entertainment purposes.In fifteen films of freestyle wrestler 'Dara Singh' she was the heroine or in an important role.Thus she was labelled as
a Stunt film heroine and later it  became a barrier for her to access the lead role of main stream
cinema.But firm determination and aspiration,Hard work,enthusiasm combined with talent helped her to
achieve her goal to become heroine of  mainstream films.
Earlier some main actors secluded her as a 'B' grade actress and was not willing to accept her
as their counterpart in films but when she rose to stardom they were in the forefront to act
opposite to her.
She  got the attention of critics  when she manifested  the role as one of the leading ladies of
Dilip Kumar's 'Ram aur Shyam' which was released in 1967.
'Humraaz' was a Sunil Dutt film directed by B.R.Chopra in which she acted in a notable role.
'Mere Humdan Mere Dost' directed by Amar Kumar was Rajesh Khanna-Sharmila Tagore
film in which Mumtaz was in supporting role.During that period she was cast in many films of Sharmila Tagore for playing supporting roles.
In the 1968 film of Shammi Kapoor,  'Brahmachari' in which Rajshree,Pran,Mumtaz etc acted 
the song  sequence 'Aaj Kal Tere Mere'  gained much accolades for Mumtaz and paved way 
to stardom.










In 1969, Raj Khosla produced and directed 'Do Raste' in which Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz appeared as the  leading pair and the film turned to be a big grosser at the box office.
'Bandhan' starring Rajesh Khanna in lead role and Mumtaz as heroine was another big grosser.
Sachcha Jhutta which was a 'Man Mohan Desai' film of Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz of 1970
was also a blockbuster film  for which Rajesh Khanna received filmfare best actor award.
Indirectly Mumtaz helped boost Rajesh Khanna's film career also.
In 1970 film 'Khilona' Sanjeev Kumar and Mumtaz presented unforgettable performance
and the film was a huge success artistically and financially.Satrughnan Sinha,Jeetendra etc
were also in that film.She proved herself her talent to manifest emotional roles brilliantly.
'Dushman' was 1971 fim of Rajesh khanna which was also a nice film and box office success.
'Tere Mere Sapne' of Dev Anand and Mumtaz was also accepted by the audience happily.
She acted as heroine in 'Tangewala' opposite Rajendra Kumar, and in 'Chor Machaye Shor' Opposite Shashi Kapoor.
'Aaina' was her last film before quitting films in 1977.
She got married in 1974 to an Indian  Industrialist  and she has two daughters.
She did come back in 1989 with the  film 'Andhiyan' but the audience were not happy to accept
their yesteryear cute heroine in middle aged roles after a long gap.
In 1996 she received Filmfare lifetime achievement Award.
She received Life time achievement award from Int'l Indian Film academy of Bangkok in 2008.

WAHEEDA REHMAN

To the delight of the Telugu film viewers in the film 'Jayasimha' which was released in  1955
there appeared a new heroin like a 'nymph' who could dance also skillfully.It was Waheeda Rehman who debuted in to the film field with that film.
She was born on 14 May 1936 in a traditional Telugu speaking Muslim family at Chengalpetta,Tamil Nadu.Her father who was a District Commissioner died when she was in her teens.She was trained in 'Bharata Natyam' from childhood and performed on stages.
 In 1955 a film by name 'Rojulu Maarayi'
in which Gemini Ganesan was the hero and Wahida Rehman in lead female role  was released and it was dubbed to 
Tamil as 'Kaalam Maari Pochu'  which proclaimed that the new  heroine possessed
fantastic acting talents and dancing skills.
That film was  noted by the great film maker Guru Dutt and he invited her to Bollywood and
gave a role in the film CID in 1956 which was directed by Raj Khosla.
In the next year he gave her role in his own film 'Pyaasa' a role which she took as a challenge
and manifested nicely which she is admired for still.
She played in Guru Dutt's films 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand,Kagaz ke Phool,Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam' etc.
All these films were critically well acclaimed and have an artistic value which are still used
by film Institute students for study and research.
In 'Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam' Meena Kumari portrayed the role as Chhoti Bahu and Waheeda Rehman played the role as 'Jabu'.All the actors in the film acted superbly in this film.
She acted with Dev Anand in successful films like "Solva Saal,CID,Kala Bazar,Baat Ek Raat Ki,Guide' etc.
The film 'Guide' is considered as the very best film of Waheeda Rehman and Dev Anand.
It was written and directed by Vijay Anand.The film was screened at Cannes film festival after 42 years of its release.Its music by S.D.Burman is also highly appreciated.The film is based on 
a Novel written by R.K.Narayan and the film have turned to be one of the masterpiece of
Indian film industry.She was cast in Sathyajit Ray's 'Abhijan' in 1962.
'Teesri Kasam' another beautiful film was directed by Basu Bhattacharya in which Raj Kapoor
and Waheeda Rehman acted wonderfully.It revealed the story of a poor villager.
'Ram Aur Shyam' was an entertainer of 1967 in which Dilip Kumar acted opposite Waheeda.
'Reshma aur Shera' enabled her to get National award as Best Actress and this film was
directed by Sunil Dutt in which the lead role was also played by him.Music director 'Jaidev'
won National award as Best music director for this film.Amitabh Bachchan,Vinod Khanna,and Rekha were also in important roles in this film.
'Kabhie Kabhie' which was a blockbuster film which earned much love from the audience
was a film of Amitabh Bachchan,Shashi Kapoor,Waheeda,Rekha,Neetu singh and Rishi Kapoor which was directed by Yash Chopra.
Amitabh Bachchan,Smitha Patil,Parveen Babi,Shashi Kapoor etc acted in the critically
acclaimed film 'Namak Halal' of 1982.
In the same year  Waheeda Rehman presented fantastic acting talents in the 'Gulzar' film 'Namkeen'
as the mother of three young girls.Sharmila Tagore and Shabana Aazmi were  brilliant
in this film along with Sanjeev Kumar as 'Geerulal' the truck driver.





Waheeda Rehman's biggest hit was 'Khamoshi' opposite Rajesh Khanna.
Waheeda Rehman handled the lead role in 1987 film  'Coolie' of Amitabh Bachchan.During
the shooting of that film was Amitabh Bacchan got seriously injured.
In 1974 she married actor/businessman Kamaljeet who was her hero in the 1964 film 'Shagun'.
She was living at Bangalore with her husband and children and after the death of her husband
she moved to her house in Mumbai.
In recent years she appeared in elderly roles in films like'Om Jai Jageesh,Water,Rang de Basanti,Delhi 6,etc.
During her long film career she got praise for her marvelous acting skill in films like'Kabhie
Kabhie,Trishul,Namak Halal,Namkeen,Chandni,Mashaal,Teesri Kasam,Khamoshi,Guide' etc.
She got National film award as Best  actress for 'Reshma aur Shera'
Filmfare award as Best actress for 'Guide'
Bengal film journalist's award as Best actress for 'Teesri Kasam'
