Kanaka Durga and Raja Kokila are South Indian actresses who were very active in the 70's
Manasi and Kanaka Durga
but left the arena during early  80's by getting married.
Kanaka Durga acted in more films than Raja Kokila and she  was mainly a Malayalam film actress even though she hails from Andhra Pradesh.
Kanaka Durga belongs to a family which is having  connection to the artistic field and so from
the childhood itself Kanaka Durga was interested to join films.She was not interested for higher 
studies  after schooling. Once   film director K.Viswanath came to their residence to see
her grandfather who was his friend and she understood that he  was in search for a suitable location for his next Telugu
film.Kanaka Durga was sixteen years old at that time and she requested K.Viswanath a role
in his film which he sanctioned and she debuted  in a small role with Sobhan Babu in the next film
of director k.Viswanath .Expecting more roles in other South Indian languages she shifted to
Chennai.There she was not lucky enough to get offers as expected in films but she got chances
to act in stage plays.During a small period itself she gained name and fame as an efficient
actress on professional drama stage.
When director Ramu Kariat was  in search for a new face for his big budget Malayalam  film 'Nellu' he
came to know about Kanaka Durga and he selected her for the role of 'Kurumatty' a notable
role in that film.The film which told the story of 'Adiyar community, a tribal group of  Wynadu 
of  Kerala was written by P.Valsala.The film contained beautiful songs composed by Salil Choudhary and one of the songs was sung by Lata Mangeshkar. Balu Mhendra debuted as cinematographer in this film which was a blockbuster film and box office hit.Kanka Durga danced in this film singing a song 'Kalyana Prayathil pennungal choodunna' and she received accolades for her character Kurumatty.
Kanaka Durga was then accepted by Malayalam film industry as a supporting actress.She was heroine in some films also like in 'Mazhakkaru' opposite Madhu and which was directed by 
P.N.Menon.She was also heroine in some films of M.G.Soman and Jayan.
She acted in a good role in 'Mohiniyattam' an award winning  film directed by Sreekumaran Thampi and in
which Lakshmi was the heroine.Like that she was given well noted roles in film 'Sikharangal'
directed by actress Sheela and 'Uthradarathri' an award winning film of Balachandra Menon.
Her role in 'Etho Oru Swapnam'  as well as 'Theekkanal' also received accolades.Theekkanal
was a super hit film which was directed by Madhu and acted as hero and Mohan was the 
brother-in-law of Madhu in the film.Kanaka Durga's sequences  as the representative of a big Company trying to 
seduce Mohan for the business benefits of her company was very much appreciated by the
While on the sets of film 'Uthradarathri' she met cinematographer Hemachandran  and fell
in love with him.She got married to him and they  were living happily and peacefully till his death
in 2001.The South Indian film actress 'Manasi' who was the heroine in Malayalam film
'Big B' is Kanaka Durga's daughter.Manasi married Tamil film actor 'Vikrant'.
Kanaka Durga has acted in  Lohita Das film 'Soothradharan' after a big gap.

Raja Kokila  used to act in Tamil films when she got chance in Malayalam films and acted 
in some films during 70's.
Film 'Ganga' is a Tamil film released in 1972 which was directed by Karnan in which Jai Shankar was the hero.Raja Kokila was given a role in that film.
In 1972 again in a Jai Shankar film 'Jakkamma' she had a noted role.In 1975  in a Jay Shankar and Siva Kumar film 'Enga Pattan Sothu' she acted and in 1980 film 'Jambu'
also she was having a notable role.
In the 1974 Malayalam  film 'Durga' which was produced and directed by Kunchacko  which dealt with
the story of Circus artiste's life written by N.Govindan Kutty, she was given a role.
In the Malayalam film 'Sandhya Mayungum Neram' in which Bharat Gopi and Jayabharathi
acted in lead roles Raja Kokila acted.
In the 1976 film 'Chottanikkara Amma' which was a super hit film directed by Mani she
acted in a nice role.The film in which Sreevidya,Vincent,Unnimary,Sobha,Sreelatha
Ravi Menon etc acted was a huge success in the box office and the song 'Manussu manassinte kathil rahasyangal manthrikkum madhuvidhu rathri' was  a super hit song which is still popular..
In the year 1977 she acted in a film 'Penpuli' which was also directed by Mani and Adoor Bhasi,K.P.A.C.Lalitha,Vincent ,Unnimary etc acted and was written by Jagathy N.K.Achary.
She  left the film field marrying a film director.
