URVASHI

Urvashi is a highly acclaimed and one of the top heroines of Malayalam Cinema during 1980's and 90's and
still active in supporting roles. She used to act in all South Indian languages and earned reputation and fame as a well talented actress from all the audience. Her acting abilities are inherent.Stage actor Chavara V.P.Nair was her father and mother is Vijaya Lakshmi. Urvashi's real name is Kavitha Ranjini. One  of her elder Sister Kala Ranjini was heroine of Malayalam films
when she was young and had acted opposite to Mammootty also. Now she is concentrating on T.V.Serials.
Another sister Kalpana is the most acclaimed comedy actress of Malayalam cinema who also acts in other languages and in character  roles also apart from comedy roles.Kalpana had acted as heroine of Tamil actor/Director K.Bhagyaraj also.
Urvashi came to lime light with the Tamil film 'Munthane Mudichu' of 1982 which was directed by K.Bhagyaraj
and acted in the Main role. The Block buster film was a big hit in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In those days all  films
of K.Bhagyaraj were hits which contained many elements for attracting the audience. In the film Munthane Mudichu, Urvashy was the wife of an Upper Primary school Teacher, whose role was handled by K.Bhagyaraj.Urvashy's character,  'Parimala' was always surrounded by  a gang of small children who were students of the school where Bhagyaraj was the teacher.Parimala whose I.Q. was not up to the mark acted foolishly according to the advice of  the children who were her friends and fell in to trouble several times.Urvashi was only fourteen years old when she handled that role but she was excellent as 'Parimala'.Even though Munthane Mudichu was her debut film, she had actually acted in two Malayalam films in previous year
'Ethirpukal, and 'Enikku Visakkunnu' which was released later. The experience in acting those films helped her to act very easily in Munthane mudichu.
The roaring success of Munthane mudichu helped Urvashi to get main roles of Several Kannada films and she could act in films of all eminent actors of that language including Raj Kumar,Vishnu Vardhan,Ravi Chandran,
Ramesh Aravind etc.Her Kannada film 'Rama Shama Bhama of  2005 was also a super hit.
Her Malayalam film 'Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu' of Sathyan Anthikkad in which Jayaram was the hero and Sreenivasan in an important role boosted her acting career  as well as film 'Mazhavil Kavady' again a Jayaram
film.Mazhavil Kavady was also directed by Sathyan Anthikkad which  was a comedy film in which Jayaram becomes
a Barber at Pazhani created much laughter.Krishnan Kutty Nair, who was very lean and slim acted as her father
and Urvashi praising about his health to Jayaram was very funny.Urvashy got best actress award for that film.'Thalayana Mantram' which was directed by Sreenivasan  revealed her acting skill  in a high level. She was  as usual very natural to act these characters which the audience felt as if real. This is the case for her
role in 'Sphadikam' with Mohan Lal  which was directed by Bhadran  and in the  song sequence with Mohan Lal  in the truck after drinking toddy was also excellent.
In 'Venkalam' with Manoj K.Jayan  she acted fantastically well and the theme and story which differed from usual pattern attracted the audience.Murali was also in his best in that film. She had the chance to act with almost all  Prominent actors of those time like Mammootty,Mohan Lal,Jayaram,Manoj K Jayan,Jagadeesh,
Sreenivasan etc.
In the film 'Kazhakam, which was directed by Sukumaran Nair her role was a challenge to her acting skill
which was an award winning performance. Her performance in 'Achuvinte Amma' as supporting actress earned her National Award in 2006.
She married actor Manoj  K Jayan but they got legal separation in 2008 due to their own reasons.
