The film 'Bobby' presented by Raj Kapoor in 1973 created an ecstatic feeling to the younger generation of that time.Literally they celebrated that film with joyful contented minds.Raj Kapoor created 'Bobby' with perfection checking all aspects like story,screen play,editing,lyrics,music,singers,costumes,make -up,hair style and such minute details up to fantastic sets, beautiful out door locations and genuine direction.He made that film to launch
his  son Rishi Kapoor as hero on the silver screen.In that effort he found the exquisite beauty 'Dimple Kapadia'
as pair for his son in the film 'Bobby'.
Dimple Kapadia  is  the daughter of  a Gujarati businessman Chunnibhai and Betty and when acted in Bobby she was only 16 years old.Her date of Birth is June 8, 1957.She has an younger sister who was born on 15 August 1958.Her name is Simple Kapadia who has also acted in several pictures.
The story of 'Bobby' was a teen love theme.Bobby Bregenza a middle class Anglo-Indian Christian girl  falling in love with Raj, the son of a rich businessman  and the consequences there upon was the theme of the film.
The film was a big success at the box Office and it is an incontrovertible fact that the huge success of the film has the contribution of the  new heroine 'Dimple Kapadia' who was possessing a charming figure and raving beauty
at that time.She presented brilliant acting talents in the film and her precociousness in this regard was well acclaimed.But she used to say that all the credit goes to Raj Kapoor for polishing her acting talents.
Rishi Kapoor was also an energetic smart young boy in the film who presented his role fantastically well and
created ravishing repletion.He received ratification as the young hero of Bollywood by his debut film Bobby itself.
The  character of Dimple Kapadia was presented as an innocent girl in the film and her mannerisms,make-up,
hair style,costumes etc were well noted and some dialogues were also loved by the young generation.Her acting was endearing and she acted with swim suits revealing the body figure ravishingly which titillated the feelings of the youth.The beautiful music and songs added much credit to the film and the song sequences were also very charming.Altogether the amenity of 'Bobby' was a new experience  especially for the younger generation of that period and the main credit goes to Dimple Kapadia.
Several films in that genre would have been made in the coming years with Dimple Kapadia in the main role but
she quit films by marrying the Super Star Rajesh Khanna.She settled in their Bungalow at Juhu as a house wife.
The couple got two daughters,  and both of them became actresses later on.
Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna separated in 1983 and Dimple Kapadia returned to acting career.She
was cast in a film 'Zakhmi Sher' but before its release another film 'Sagar' was released first which earned her Filmfare award for Best Actress.For Bobby also  she was recipient of Filmfare Best Actress Award.
In the film Sagar also Rishi Kapoor acted with her and there were scenes to reveal her glamour.That film was selected as India's Official entry for Oscar for that year.
After Sagar she acted with Sunny Deol in 'Manzil Manzil' which was directed by Nazir Hussain.Dimple Kapadia wanted to prove that she had the real acting talents and acted in parallel cinema to prove it.In the film 'Kaash'directed by Mahesh Bhatt she had to work hard and Jackie Shroff and Dimple Kapadia took it as an artistic challenge which was a fine movie.
In 1993 she won National Award for Best Actress for the Film 'Rudaali' which was directed by 'Kalpana Lajmi'.She handled the role of a village woman who never cried in her life of misfortune but had to select a job as 'Professional mourner'.The supporting actress role in 'Krantveer' with Nana Patekar was also a challenge which needed much acting abilities.
She continues to act and has to her credit more than 69 films so far.She is appearing infrequently and acted in a film by name  'Luck by Chance' in 2009,Danbangg in 2010,and Patiala House in 2011.
Akshay Kumar is her Son-in-law and she is now a grand mother also.
She has acted in a Malayalam film 'Bombay Mittayi' in 2010 which is not yet released.Srilankan actress
'Nilambari' is the heroine of that film and the hero is 'Vinu Mohan'.It is directed by Umar Karikkad.
